Abdominal Pain Symptoms

There are many organs in the abdomen and pain can originate from any one of them.  However, the pain may start from somewhere else like your chest or pelvic area. The intensity of the pain does not always reflect the seriousness of the condition causing the pain.

Pain from the abdominal cavity is characterized as visceral pain.  Abdominal pain not due to acute processes and after thorough evaluation by a gastroenteroligists, possibly urologist and/or gynacologist may respond to sympathetic or other nerve blockade as well as certain oral medications.

For example, the x ray guided needle injection known as the celiac plexus blockade has been used to treat chronic non-cancer abdominal pain or abdominal pain due to cancer in the abdominal cavity.

The ganglion impar blockade is another x ray guided needle injection which has been used to treat pain felt in the perineum, pelvic, testicular and groin areas.

Abdominal pain may also arise after surgeries around the site of incisions.
